tina turner private dancer remixtina turner private dancer 1Who could forget the song, Private Dancer, by Tina Turner. It includes the line, "I'm your private dancer, dancer for money, do what you want me to to". In today's parlance, this would inevitably refer to the ladies of the pole, the dancers of the mast, the groovers of the stick. On the original cover we see Ms Turner sitting in a chair but, and here's the amazing bit, she is not dancing! In the remix we see a lady of the pole, dancing for money. And doing pretty much what you would expect her to do for the price. Ching!

Surfer Rosa - Pixies

pixies surfer rosa remixpixies surfer rosa 1We did laugh when the original cover of the Pixies' album Surfer Rosa was brought to our attention. It seems they were trying to pre-empt any remix by having a Spanish looking flamenco dancer stand topless amidst some religious symbolism. Nice try, but when we translated Surfer Rosa from Spanish into Japanese, and then from Japanese to Russian, then to Italian, back to Spanish, then to German, and eventually English, we found that it actually meant 'woman red clothes naked pose mountain'. So that's what the remix is. Spike!

arrow hot hot hot 2arrow hot hot hot 1So here we are, on our way to the beach flying on a Groovejet when the pilot comes on the tannoy to announce the weather at the destination. Is it warm and sunny? No. Is it hot and sticky? No. According to the captain it's Hot Hot Hot, which is exactly the forecast that Arrow gave in his 1980s song and album of the same name. How fortuitous that the remix shows the weather at the destination and even better that it shows three hot hot hot babes waiting there. Sizzle!

The Phantom Of The Opera - Various Artists

phantom of the opera 2phantom of the opera 1We had an email from Timothy Blenkinsop-Smithe of Olde England who said:
Your web-site is replete with alternative artwork for very low-brow songs that should be in the gutter. You need to add some high-brow content to your site through classical music and opera.

Timothy sent us this remix for the soundtrack album of The Phantom Of The Opera as an illustration of what he called 'a more aesthetically blended visualization'. Whatever floats your boat Timothy!

Three Of A Perfect Pair - King Crimson

king crimson 3 perfect pair 2king crimson 3 perfect pair 1There is an obvious remix for any cover artwork for an album called Three Of A Perfect Pair, focusing, as would be expected, on the perfect pair analogy. But for this remix of the 1980s album by King Crimson, we have chosen a less beaten path and simply replaced the odd symbol with three babes, all of who have a perfect pair. Now that's what we call a remix. Sextuplet!

ultravox vienna remixultravox vienna 1The song Vienna by Ultravox was, apparently, the breakthrough song of the 1980s new romantic synth-pop era. This remix of the album cover of the same name comes from Simon Lampeter of Britain who says:
The new romantic era was all about romance and newness. The original album cover has neither. My remix has both. Hope you like it.

Nice one Simon. Always nice to receive a user submitted entry.

In The Army Now - Status Quo

status quo in army now remixstatus quo in army now 1Concluding our week of Status Quo cover remixes sent in by Mark Hodson of England is this for their 1980s album (and single of the same name) In The Army Now. The original cover shows, what presumably is meant to be the members of the band, in their ol' rag blues (denim jeans to you and me) raising the Union flag on a pole. As covers go, this scores highly as it includes both the band and some representation of what the song is about. Mr Hodson's remix shows a more intimate view of life in the army - presumably in this case the People's Liberation Army!

Thank you to Mr Hodson for all his work on the remixes of Status Quo covers he has sent us this week.

chris rea on the beach 2chris rea on the beach 1Yes, a return to bikini clad babes and summer songs is necessary. This single (and album of the same name) by Chris Rea does just that taking us On The Beach. But on Mr Rea's beach there is naught but an umbrella. On the remixed cover the beach is still relatively empty but there is now a cute young thing with no bikini top looking rather coy. You can see why - with only a small puff of wind she would be topless.

michael jackson thriller remixmichael jackson thriller 1Anyone of a certain age remembers the video for Thriller by Michael Jackson. If you don't, think Glee with Zombies. But the cover of his 1982 album shows no signs of the dancing Zombie nature of the video, or the cackles of Vincent Price on the soundtrack. And so, Mr Jackson's cover has been remixed to show a Zombie. Whether this one can dance is unknown, but perhaps she is getting lessons from Mr Jackson now that he is six feet under?

Rebel Yell - Billy Idol

billy idol rebel yell remixbilly idol rebel yell 1Billy Idol has featured a number of times on AllBum.Art as, for some reason, his songs and covers are perfectly designed for a good old remix. Mr Idol's 1983 album Rebel Yell needs a bit more of a revolutionary feel to it. Short of adding a picture of Fidel Castro, the alternative that has been arrived at seems to do the job very nicely. Definitely a rebel what with being bare chested and carrying an automatic weapon. That's a sure fire way to overcome the establishment!
