king crimson 3 perfect pair 2king crimson 3 perfect pair 1There is an obvious remix for any cover artwork for an album called Three Of A Perfect Pair, focusing, as would be expected, on the perfect pair analogy. But for this remix of the 1980s album by King Crimson, we have chosen a less beaten path and simply replaced the odd symbol with three babes, all of who have a perfect pair. Now that's what we call a remix. Sextuplet!

Vienna - Ultravox

ultravox vienna remixultravox vienna 1The song Vienna by Ultravox was, apparently, the breakthrough song of the 1980s new romantic synth-pop era. This remix of the album cover of the same name comes from Simon Lampeter of Britain who says:
The new romantic era was all about romance and newness. The original album cover has neither. My remix has both. Hope you like it.

Nice one Simon. Always nice to receive a user submitted entry.

In The Army Now - Status Quo

status quo in army now remixstatus quo in army now 1Concluding our week of Status Quo cover remixes sent in by Mark Hodson of England is this for their 1980s album (and single of the same name) In The Army Now. The original cover shows, what presumably is meant to be the members of the band, in their ol' rag blues (denim jeans to you and me) raising the Union flag on a pole. As covers go, this scores highly as it includes both the band and some representation of what the song is about. Mr Hodson's remix shows a more intimate view of life in the army - presumably in this case the People's Liberation Army!

Thank you to Mr Hodson for all his work on the remixes of Status Quo covers he has sent us this week.

On The Beach - Chris Rea

chris rea on the beach 2chris rea on the beach 1Yes, a return to bikini clad babes and summer songs is necessary. This single (and album of the same name) by Chris Rea does just that taking us On The Beach. But on Mr Rea's beach there is naught but an umbrella. On the remixed cover the beach is still relatively empty but there is now a cute young thing with no bikini top looking rather coy. You can see why - with only a small puff of wind she would be topless.

Thriller - Michael Jackson

michael jackson thriller remixmichael jackson thriller 1Anyone of a certain age remembers the video for Thriller by Michael Jackson. If you don't, think Glee with Zombies. But the cover of his 1982 album shows no signs of the dancing Zombie nature of the video, or the cackles of Vincent Price on the soundtrack. And so, Mr Jackson's cover has been remixed to show a Zombie. Whether this one can dance is unknown, but perhaps she is getting lessons from Mr Jackson now that he is six feet under?

Rebel Yell - Billy Idol

billy idol rebel yell remixbilly idol rebel yell 1Billy Idol has featured a number of times on AllBum.Art as, for some reason, his songs and covers are perfectly designed for a good old remix. Mr Idol's 1983 album Rebel Yell needs a bit more of a revolutionary feel to it. Short of adding a picture of Fidel Castro, the alternative that has been arrived at seems to do the job very nicely. Definitely a rebel what with being bare chested and carrying an automatic weapon. That's a sure fire way to overcome the establishment!

For Those About To Rock We Salute You - AC/DC

acdc for those abou2rock 2acdc for those abou2rock 1Australian heavy metal band AC/DC scored an internationally acclaimed hit with their 1981 album For Those About To Rock We Salute You. Cleverly, the cover of the album shows a canon, as used for military salutes. It would be more obvious though, if the military salute were given by a real person and not an inanimate metal object. So in the remixed cover we see a military girl doing the salute. She may not be in the armed forces, but there are surely few who would not want her forced into their arms!

Back To The Shit - Millie Jackson

millie jackson back to the shit remixmillie jackson back to the shit 1To be completely fair to Millie Jackson, we would score the cover of her album Back To The Shit full marks. On it we see Ms Jackson sitting astride the john, heels in hand, getting back to her defecating. So in that respect, we see the artist who is depicting the title, and hence the top score. The remix would actually score less as it is no longer Ms Jackson in the picture. The only counterbalancing feature is that the new babe on the cover has let her gown fall open. Flash!

Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi

bon jovi slippery when wet 1An album title waiting to be remixed if ever there was one. In fact a quick Internet search will reveal many remixed and fanmade covers for this 1986 album from Bon Jovi that immediately recognise the idea that there are many things that are Slippery When Wet but few more commonplace, or aesthetically pleasing, than a pair of boobs. The original cover shows nothing more than the words 'slippery when wet' scrawled upon what appears to be the glass screen of a shower that has been splattered with droplets of water. Oh, and of course the all important name of the band as well - but notably none of the band members - nor the person responsible for scrawling the words on the shower glass are in any way prominent.

bon jovi slippery when wet remixIn the remixed version, what has happened is that the person who was placed in the shower by the photographic team has moved such that she is now in the shot. Whilst we cannot see her face, it does appear that she has gotten wet whilst being involved in the photoshoot. What is a little odd is that she seems to have taken the opportunity of being in the shower to cover her body in some kind of oil. Maybe this was to repel the water that was clearly involved in making the album cover. The net result is that she appears to be both very wet and very very slippery. It seems quite possible that this was one of the requirements of the photographer but as she doesn't appear on the original cover, it seems a lot to ask. It's fitting that she should make it onto the remixed cover so that her efforts are not in vain, and are instead recognised for the valuable contribution that they make.

Dancing On The Ceiling - Lionel Richie

lionel richie dancing on the ceiling 1Ooooh, what a feelin'! When your Dancing On The Ceiling. Too right. A feeling that any second you will fall off and you will hit your head on the floor. But that doesn't seem to deter Mr Richie from encouraging us to join in this rather pointless pass-time. The cover of this 1986 single (and album of the same name) sees Mr Richie in a white suit with his trademark black mustache looking a little as if he has already fallen and hurt his head. Or perhaps he is not smiling as the party is now over and he is having to sit on the floor. Or maybe his frizzy hair got damaged in all the falling off. Either or other way, he could have tried to smile a bit.

lionel richie dancing on the ceiling 2The lady on the revised album (and single of the same name) cover, unlike Mr Richie, does appear to be dancing on the ceiling, with her legs very definitely up in the air. Sensibly she seems to be propping herself up on the floor to avoid falling and hurting her head. Mind you, in those heels, she would be prone to falling over even if she was dancing on the floor and not the ceiling.

Oh, hang on a cotton picking minute, someone has just turned the picture sideways haven't they? It's just a picture of a girl sat on some stairs that has been rotated. Still, she is pretty, in a sideways sort of a way and unlike Mr Richie, at least she is smiling.
